        The North Ceryn Rowntree

I met Ceryn the way you meet most things that span beyond lifetimes — sideways, and then all at once.

Ceryn has always walked the in-between places: the boardroom and the woodland circle, the corporate story and the older one underneath it, the seen world and the one that only shows itself at thresholds. For fifteen years she built her craft in corporate communications, learning how to shape story for the corporate world, Underneath it, something older kept calling.

Ceryn holds an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology, alongside years of study in counselling, coaching, and energy work. She is the author of two books and co-author of four more, a woman who has spent over two decades at the meeting-point of psychology and soul, working with people across the world through their own becomings.

Ceryn calls herself a Threshold Guide, a Word Alchemist, and a Primal Witch. She is the one who stands with you at the edge of an ending until it becomes fertile ground. She is the one who can take the wordless thing in your chest and turn it into language that changes something.

Ceryn brings to this work what she brings to everything: an unwillingness to look away from the parts of the story that aren't all rainbows and sparkles. She is a fellow wanderer of thresholds, and I'm glad to be walking this particular one with her.

Two women, Ceryn Rowntree (left) and Charlie Edwards (right) stand before a rocky outcrop leading out onto the sea. Both wear raincoats and rucksacks. Ceryn is wearing black rimmed glasses, while Charlie wears a striped woollen hat.

Charlie is a brunette in her 40s who wears a loose kaftan over a black top and has a bag on the shoulder closest to the camera. Ceryn is a redhead in her 40s wearing a black dress and a large golden necklace. The photo is in black and white.

        Charlie Edwards

Some people search for years for the thing that sets their heart aflame while others simply live that passion and purpose all along.

Charlie is very much the latter.

Charlie has been a singer for as long as she can remember, but from the very first voice note she ever sent me, it was obvious that her work with voice was so much more than performance. Instead it's about resonance, depth and truth.

The truth of what she has to share with the world, yes. But also the truth about what each of us need to share too, from deep within our hearts and our souls. And the truth the land. Because I've never met anyone who connects with and reveres the land as deeply as Charlie does.

Perhaps that's why, when her heartlands of Cornwall called her to tend them a few years ago, she didn't hesitate to answer, and has honoured, tended to and protected those same lands every day since with the kind of loyalty we rarely see nowadays. But then that's the thing about Charlie: as those who know her best will tell you, she is one of the most loyal people you will ever meet. Not only when it comes to the land she tends, nor even to the people she loves (though gods am I grateful to be counted in that group of people!), but also to that which she holds sacred.

When Spirit chose Charlie as an elder of this land, a Story Seer, a Voice Weaver and a Coastal Chantress, they weren't messing about! They recognised that they had someone who would never back down from a challenge (even if that meant standing pale-faced through a clifftop ritual after being ill for weeks on end) or shy away from the hard work that needed to be done; someone who could spot a performance a mile off but still chooses to be utterly real and reverent in everything that she does; and someone proudly and radiantly brings her whole self to everything she touches — in a way that means you can't help but do the same.

When we speak of the truth of the Wyld, the integrity of Hal and the wisdom of the Lore, we're not just talking about what Charlie does for work, we're talking about who she is, and it is an honour to walk that journey beside her.

Two ends of the land. One unbroken line.
